Hi,

Has anyone got any suggestions for a free vista compatible word processor program?

I am (finally) running VM Ware Fusion 3 with Vista on my mac, so as to run Dragon Nationally Speaking.

I switched to macs about 2003 and have saved a box with MS Office XP Professional Special Edition since then as i didnt have the heart to throw something out that had cost me money. It would not load and I can now see why. My box has UPGRADE written on it hence it wont load (am i allowed to sell it on ebay also??).

At the moment i am using the dragon pad which does not automatically save once you name the file. also it does not remind you that you have not saved it but what i really want is the auto save function after time duration as i have found that dragon sometimes seizes and i loose everything i have just done.

cheers

Windows does come with WordPad, although I'm assuming you're looking for something a bit more powerful. I too have heard good things about OpenOffice, and while I've never tried it myself, I'd say it's worth a shot. Still, WordPad may be a good "quick fix" if you don't want to try an open source product.

Microsoft is notorious for selling "upgrade" editions. These are for users of the previous version and typically retail for less than the full product and will both require and check for its presence on your hard drive when it is installed. As for re-selling it on eBay, I'd check the EULA to make sure it's permissible.

OpenOffice works fine, as long as you don’t need VBA support for macros. But for everyday work, it will fill the need easily.

Neo Office works as good or better than Open Office - It is also FREE!

Now I also have an Iphone, Ipod Touch and a MacBook, this is getting addictive! And I just changed over to a Mac Mini at the office, running Entourage through our Exchange Server. Wild!

True, but the original poster wanted a
Windows word processor. NeoOffice is Mac-only (which I also use).

As he said, he only has an upgrade copy of Windows - so why not use Neo on the Mac side, as he doesn't have Windows running?
