I'm a new Mac and Firefox user so please excuse what's likely a "dumb question"...

I open Firefox, browse with it, then minimize the last page browsed in the dock.

Next, I open Mail, check an email, then minimize the last Mail page read in the dock.

Next, I want to use Firefox to browse a new topic so I click on the Firefox icon in the dock expecting to get a fresh broswer page to open, but instead the page I had previously minimized re-opens so now I have to go to File>New Window to get a fresh broswer page.

My question: Is there a way to get a fresh browser page to open when I click on the Firefox icon in the dock without having a minimized page re-open then having to go to File>New Window?

Thanks for any info! Cheers.

Welcome to Mac Forums - no such thing as a "dumb" question.

What you're experiencing is an irritating aspect of the MacOS, ie. a minimised page leaps back out when you L-click the application icon in the Dock.

Solution? R-click the app icon instead and select New Window.

PS. just for fun - hold Shift down when you minimise or restore a window.

OK, that R-click thing is pretty cool, although I wonder what the purpose is?

Well, some programmers had to make a choice. It was probably made by committee.

Ctrl + N = New Window.

Ctrl + T = New Tab.

That's kind of the best you can do. >_>

Instead of clicking and right-clicking and whatnot... use CMD-TAB to make Firefox active. Then press CMD-N to get a brand spanking new browser window while your old one is still minimized.

I grew tired of minimizing and started using Spaces, firefox load in one and other apps load in Space 2 or 3. I've reprogrammed keys to allow me to jump to a space or roll through them.

I agree. Spaces is great. Even better with Hyperspaces as well.

I have four different screens, each with a meaningful name and a different wallpaper, with different applications set to use each one. Another of the things I miss when forced back to a PC. Linux has this ability too, although not all distros can do the different wallpaper trick.

I used to have 'You Control Desktops' on Leopard, which I think is better in some ways than Hyperspaces, but the former does not work on Snow Leopard.
