Hu Guys. I hope this is the right part of the forum for this:
Of all the programs on my imac (which aren't many btw), the only one that opens slowly is iTunes. I mean REAL slow too. I am talking about seeing the beach ball for around 40 seconds before anything happens. None of my applications do that except my iTunes. I only have about 86 songs TOTAL on it and I don't have my iPod connected most of the time.

Some particulars: Itunes 09, SL on a recently purchased 20" imac. Everything has been updated to my knowledge. I have to admit I really only noticed it after the last big updates came out though. (its not like I use this program daily or anything)
Any ideas would definitely be appreciated.

Has this only happened once or have you tried opening iTunes multiple times and it does it every time?
After the latest big system update iTunes took quite a while to open for me too. But after I quit it and opened it again a few hours later, it opened up right away.

Sorry if that doesn't help.

iTunes is generally one of the slower programs on my Mac, too, but that sounds far too slow. Try opening the Library folder (in your Home folder) and then the Preferences folder within. Inside, find the com.apple.iTunes.plist file and drag it to your desktop. Then open iTunes again. It will reset all your preferences, so you'll have to answer a few questions again, but your library will still be the same. If it begins to open faster, just reconfigure it to how you had it and enjoy; otherwise, you can drag that file from your desktop back into the Preferences folder to return your settings to what they were, at which point you'll want to try some other troubleshooting.

The next thing to try in case that doesn't work is repairing disk permissions. Just open Disk Utility with Spotlight (or from your Utilities folder), select your main disk on the left (Macintosh HD by default), and then click the Repair Disk Permissions button. That can fix quite a few strange problems that you might come across now or in the future.

Thanks guys for the replies.

It made a liar out of me already. It DID happen the last 3 or 4 times I opened it, but after trying it just now...it opened immediately. (I hate when it makes me out to be a liar)
I went ahead and repaired permissions anyhow as per your suggestion, nabl.
And you're right MymacROX, once I actually opened it/ closed it/ and RE-opened it again...it was immediate as well as the 3 subsequent tries just now.

If it happens again, I'll post it here as an update.

Turn off Genius, turn off seeking for AppleTv's (unless you have one) and stop sharing your library (unless you really do so).. that'll speed it up quite a bit.
