My Textedit got deleted a while ago and so every time I open a lecture slide thats in PDF form my mac opens it through CoorSync which is so bad :S Are there any apps that open PDF files like Textedit does?

I'm not sure how you were opening PDFs in TextEdit before but there is always Preview. It should have been the default reader unless you installed another PDF reader such as Adobe Reader.

It's not in your Applications folder? Do you remember removing it at any point? Have you tried searching for it using Spotlight?

If you upgrade the OS all the standard apps will return

    But do a back-up first

Yeah, PDFs are supposed to be viewed in Preview. Installing Snow Leopard should give that back to you. If you have the original installation disk for Leopard, for example, you can get the application from there as well.
