I was wondering if any of you fine folks could tell me if there are any apps out there that will open the .abw / abiword files. I thought open office could, but I haven't tried. I know a couple other apps could long ago, but I am not sure what they are now.

I am cleaning out my documents folder and trying to organize files (getting ready for snow leopard *giddy teehehe*) I have discovered many Abiword files that were created back when I used to love Abiword. I no longer use Abiword because it is no longer being developed for OS X, it runs in rosetta. I just downloaded the most recent Abiword I could find. I was hoping I could just export all of the files, but abiword is just slug slow on leopard now.

Abiword keeps crashing like a mofo, so I thought I would ask to see if any of you had any golden apps that could read the .abw extension.

Thanks!

Simply put, to read Abiword files you need Abiword. Sorry, looks like your stuck with slug slow. By the way, Abiword runs great in both Linux and Windows. I wonder why they've give up on OS X?

Regards.

Yeah, I am not sure why they have ceased development on OS X. I would guess due to the lack of developers. I grabbed the source and tried to compile it for leopard, no dice. I guess I'll just have to find a windows machine. *shivers* I hate how they handle rtf. Well, actually. I'll probably just boot up a live distro of #! crunchbang linux.

I did attempt to open the files in neo office. Neo office did work, but it displayed everything in xhtml.

Thanks for the feedback.

If you're really eager, you can get abiword for X11 through MacPorts. The available version is 2.6.8, which is the most current stable release. At least this way you won't have to reboot into a Linux live cd just to use Abiword.
