Alternative to X11?

I hate X11. It breaks up apps into multiple windows which get scattered and have to be selected in order to become active, which sucks for gimp because the toolbox and canvas are two seperate windows, and then there's the matter of windows getting hidden behind windows of other apps, and having to "bring all to front" a whole lot.

If you don't have an alternative, is gimpshop based off the latest version of gimp? Then I'd get it, it's just that I'm not sure if it is.
