How to disable automatic updates: Office 2008?

I've looked through the preferences; cannot find an option to disable automatic updates from being installed in Office 2008. (updates came in last night and really screwed things up) Did some searching and found something suggested for mucking about with commands in Terminal which is not my forte, so rather not.

Is there an easy solution?

Silly me, found it!

Check for software updates automatically
  1. Microsoft AutoUpdate for Mac, which comes with Office, can keep your Microsoft software up to date. When AutoUpdate is set to check for updates automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, there's no need to search for critical updates and information; AutoUpdate delivers them directly to your computer.
  2. On the Help menu, click Check for Updates.
  3. Under How would you like to check for software updates?, click Automatically.
  4. On the Check for Updates pop-up menu, click the frequency that you want AutoUpdate to use to check for new updates.
Tips

If you don't want AutoUpdate to appear automatically when new updates are available, under How would you like to check for software updates?, select Manually.
QUOTE Thanks
