Hi, I'm a new MacBook user and had a question about Messenger for Mac. I'm having continous troubles setting an avatar/display picture in the program, is there any way of fixing this or a good alternative to Messenger? I've tried aMSN and not really sure about it.

Many thanks,
Adam.

Check out Adium.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

I'm using that now but I just don't like the feeling of it and prefer Messenger for Mac.

The interface is very customizable and it has loads more features than the official client. What don't you like about the "feeling"?

There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.

Just a note, if you need to do Video chat, aMSN is the only way on the Mac at present to do video chat on MSN. Microsoft is promising a version of MSN with video for OSX but it's been a long time coming.

Like was said above, if you don't need Video chat, Adium can be customized a lot and look very nice. Works great also.

I've deicded the best way round this is to just get Skype, as I know a few friend's who use it, so I've got that installed and we use that. Also been on iChat with a couple of my Mac user friends, and had confrences.

Thanks for your help guys, really apprecuate it.

Just thought I'd bring this back up instead of a new thread. Stil having trouble with Messenger:Mac, does anyone know if another revision of it will be released, such as 7.0.3?

I don't know, it's just too simplistic for me, being a PC user for so many years you get to the easyness and usage of MSN Messenger, so Messenger:Mac is like a little bit of Windows for me, which, all be it this could be a right downer for me, 1 reason I miss Windows

Messenger:Mac messes up your system and library folders. Use iChat

EDIT: Does Adium mess up your system and library folders

24'' Intel iMac, 3.06 GHZ dual core processor, 4 GB ram @ 800mhz, Nvidia 8800 GT graphics card with 512MB of GDDR3 memory, 500 GB Serial ATA hard drive, 6 MB shared L2 cache.

Every program Microsoft has ever made for Mac has always been crippled, bloated garbage. Office:Mac completely borked Spaces on my friends computer.

I use Adium and love it.
The idea behind OS X is to get used to simplicity. I like renaming all my contacts to just their first name so I don't have to strain my eyes looking at "+++ {{{{{{{ omg i love u so much }}}}}}} -------Taisia-------- ++++" and such all day. I remember back when I used Windows and Messenger 7.5 and I had to actually look at that.

Get used to the simplicity, it will all be better in the end
