Something strange is happening. First, Address Book wouldn't launch. Then it bounced a couple of times in the dock. Then a question mark appeared on top of the icon on the dock. I dragged it out of my Applications folder and onto the desktop and it still won't launch. The strange thing is that all the contacts are still "in there" somewhere. When I push the mouse button and the screen comes up, I can look up my contacts on the Address Book Search and it works.

It all started today when I put a contact into my iPod Touch and then it synched. I even tried repairing disc permissions, checked for a bad font, and it still isn't working and now the icon has changed to a pencil/paintbrush/ruler icon picture (instead of the normal brown address book).

Any ideas?

You could try trashing the plist file for address book, and then open it again. This may well sort it.

Where do I find this? I just right clicked on address book (which now totallly has a different icon, btw) and chose SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS. What shows up is version.plist and info.plist. Am I even looking in the right place?

It's in Library, but the easiest way to find it is use spotlight or find.

Thanks so much for your help. I just deleted it (or so I think) and it didn't work. I had to finally just call Apple and ask them to help. I had to reinstall the application using Install disc 1 and it worked. The first time we didn't drag the Address Book to the trash and empty trash, so it didn't work. Once I did that and re-reinstalled it, it finally worked. Came back with all my addresses, too!! Oh, Mac how I love thee.
