I am very new to Mac so bare with me.
A week back I downloaded Inkscape & installed it. It did open & X11 appeared in the Dock. Satisfied that it installed correctly, I closed the program. Later when shutting down, my iMac failed to close & directed me to "force quit" X11 but that failed, too. After several attempts, the only way to shut down the computer was to unplug it.
Going to Inkscape's website they recommend X11 v2.2.1 or higher as there has been issues with Leopard. In Utilities, X11 info says my X11 is v2.0. It would seem to me that Mac would offer this update if it were necessary, wouldn't they?
I don't know if X11 2.0 is the problem or not, but, is it a big deal to update X11 or am I opening Pandora's Box? Inkscape looks a lot like Xara & I'd like to use it.
All advice is appreciated.

Keeping X11 up to date shouldn't be a problem, you can get the latest release from here

Thanks louishen,
I did the update & reinstalled Inkscape; tried it, rebooted & all was normal - no lockups this time. One thing that is puzzling is Utilities/X11/Info still says it's v2.0. I must not be checking this correctly. It works & that's all that really matters.
Thanks again!

You'd check for the X11 version by opening the application and checking under X11/About X11

Got it. It's 2.3.3.2 which is what I installed yesterday.
