pc to mac attach pdf

I am sure there is a simple answer to this question.

I am sending a pdf attachment from outlook on a pc to my Imac. the file appears as a .dat file and cannot be opened.

As for your problem: This is a common error when using Outlook and sending email from Outlook to other clients. Usually the attachment will appear as a "winmail.dat" file on the receiving end. Not sure if that's what you received as you didn't say.

There are varying solutions given and can be found by doing a Google search. However, the easiest way is to avoid sending attachments from Outlook that are formatted as HTML, PDF, and even RTF. Use plain text instead, or otherwise send the PDF attachment using a different email client.

You could always try changing the extension to .pdf.

There's a utility for opening Outlook files on a mac.
