mail problem

My wife has just noticed that when she opens an email in the Mac mail program there is no toolbar (reply, forward, etc). This toolbar used to open simply by double-clicking any message in her inbox. Now, suddendly, she needs to right click and specify reply. She must have inadvertantly changed something. Any ideas?

See the little button in the top-right corner of the Mail window? Try clicking that.
