Hi everyone,

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro 15. I am listening to music from iTunes played over the integrated speakers, all of a sudden the sound disappears, then a second later resumes. It is doing this quite a bit, maybe plays 10 seconds correctly, then mutes for 2 seconds, then back on. I tried restarting iTunes, then the whole computer, its still doing this. Although as I write this, it seems to be playing correctly now. I notice that the iTunes time counter pauses during the muted periods. It is doing it no matter what track I play, and it is doing it on tracks I know play completely correctly.

The only other problem I have ever had with this machine is with the headphone jack (combined optical). Sometimes if I am listening over headphones audio only plays out of one channel unless I fiddle with the plug, then it corrects. I have heard these combined jacks have problems, but for the most part its fine.

3 days ago I closed the lid and put the laptop in its sleeve. Hours later, the case was hot--the laptop never went to sleep even though all programs were closed! I recharged it and it worked fine until the audio issue today.

Do you think there is any relationship between the stuttering iTunes audio, the possible overheating, and the audio jack? Does the MBP have an overheat-shutdown safety? The battery was not completely dead when I restarted.

How long is the warranty? I think it is 1-year, I bought this at Best Buy and it is 9 months old right now. I would like to resolve any issues before the warranty runs out, I love this machine.

It played fine for 3 hours, now it is doing it again! Using Cocktail to fix permissions, run utilities, scripts, etc. Help?

Finally took it to Apple retailer. I wasn't too excited about the prospects of them 'finding' my intermittent problem, but they did! They called back and told my the audio board was bad, required replacing entire logic board (like $1500). They shipped it off to Apple, my warranty runs out next week, but I have it back fixed with a new logic board. Should I spend $350 on extended warranty or trade for new MBP? What should I expect on trade? It is the 'base' model MBP for 2008, I paid $2000, it has 256MB video andhas 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo CPU, 200GB 5400rpm drive.
QUOTE Thanks
