I have a Macbook Pro. Parallels was installed about 9 months ago. Many valuable programs were installed on the XP machine. Recently, my mac blue screened and I had to take it in to let Apple diagnose the problem. They placed all of my files into a folder and rebooted the system with a fresh install. My OSX has been upgraded as a result by the way from 10.4.4 to 10.5.6.
Luckily I also had backed-up my files prior to the blue screen event, which will help in case Apple lost some files in their backup process. Regardless, I want to restore all of my XP applications, including the Parallels software, without a total reinstall, which would cause me to lose everything that was loaded prior. I'd like to restore Parallels without losing this data. I replaced all of the Parallels files (that are not hidden) into their proper directory on the Mac. Double-clicking the Parallels application should allow the VM to run, yet I get this error message: Parallels Desktop is unable to operate properly since it cannot communicate with one of its drivers. Try to restart the application to overcome this issue. If restart doesn't help, re-install Parallels Desktop. Note that Parallels drivers require a short time to be properly started and initialized. So you may need to wait a minute before trying to launch the application. I have attempted twice to restart the program. I have looked through and googled to locate hidden files hoping to find those that may be used by Parallels, which led me nowhere. I did notice that Apple renamed my computer. Could this be the problem? Should I look in a directory in my backup files for the Parallels drivers, in order to copy them into the currently active directory? I simply want to keep my XP-wares on the Parallels Virtual Machine, and avoid a total reinstall of the VM. Does anyone have any advice? -w56 |
