Have a look at uTorrent.
However, you may be experiencing other issues than just your client. I've used Transmission for well over a year now and it happily resumes downloading following a break in internet connection as does uTorrent. Just think aloud: Is your router definitely reconnecting OK? Is your Mac definitely connecting back to your router OK? If your not using uPNP settings is your Mac getting the same IP address/using the right port number etc. External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup Please use the reputation system if you think you've been helped - top right of this post |

Ofcourse, the problem is with Transmission or my Transmission 1.51(7958). I have downloads in Firefox's DownThemAll extension and Speed Download which resume properly after my router re-connects. See here:

Open the original .torrent file in Azureus and choose to save the data files in their current location. It will check the existing files then continue the download.

Agreed. Vuze (Azureus) is probably my favourite torrent client. I've had some problems with uTorrent. I also use Transmission from time to time and have never had a problem with auto-restart. I agree with mrplow, check your router settings. It seems whenever I have a problem, that's the best place to start!
