Can some1 plz do a video on how to install the latest version of Tomcat on OSX 10.5.6. I have looked at soo many tutorials online, and I get only so far until my terminal doesn't recognize a command.

I installed Apache Tomcat 6 as Admin under /Applications. Should I have installed it under my standard user folder instead? I can get Tomcat running, navigate to localhost:8080, bring up the Manager, but I can't get a WAR file to deploy. I use the Manager app through the web browser to find the WAR and it doesn't give an error, but the WAR file does not show up in Manager after that, and I can't navigate to my application.

Might this be a permissions issue? I wanted Tomcat to be available to all users of my computer, not just me, which is why I put it in /Applications.

Almost certainly a permissions issue.

Make sure that whichever user acccount you're using to start tomcat has the ability to read and write to the Tomcat folder, and all subfolders.

It's probably easiest to start Tomcat from an administrator's account. You can do this from the AppleScript Script Editor:
Code:
do shell script "/path/to/tomcat/bin/startup.sh" with administrator privileges
or using the su and sudo commands from the Terminal as you would under any other Unix.
It'll prompt you for an admin password.

Thanks for the help! The Tomcat directory and all subfolders are owned by System. How do I give "user" read/write access without doing chmod 777?

I changed the owner of the apache directory and all subfolders to my user account with chown -R, but still no luck.
