out of office in mac mail

hi i am wanting to create a out of office reply in my mail for a week while on holiday.

i have used the 'rules option' but not sure if it is working, i have sent a mail to myself nut not received the automated reply.

anyone have a simple solution for this?

If you use Gmail or something related you can use the "vacation responder" and that always works, whether you want it to or not. However, maybe you don't receive the automatic reply because you know what is happening. Text it from your cell phone, maybe?
