All,
Here's a goodie for y'all. Two nights ago Google's homepage appeared in Japanese when using Safari. When using Firefox, the homepage appeared in English the way it normally does. Okay, I must have done something weird, so I copied the address into Safari and it snapped back to the Japanese version. Alright, I'll install the new Safari 4 and see what happens. Same thing on the Google home page. It doesn't affect any other site. Anyone see this before? By the way, the new Safari is cool! Ron |

Hi,
that's kind of strange. I think that Google uses your IP address to detect the country where you are and set some cookies but it looks you are quite far from Japan (Dallas) ![]() Just try to go to Google preferences and set back the languages to US : Preferences This should set the Safari's coockies back to english. Edit: It's not by IP but by the browser's HTTP accept-language header that Google selects the langage: Google General FAQ Tex Last edited by Tex-Twil; 02-25-2009 at 05:37 AM. |

Thanks for the info. It's odd that I tried several times to manually type in the URL and it would snap back. The preferences had never changed from the English version of Google. However, I found on the page where it said "Google in English" and that did the trick. My wife uses Safari all of the time and all the websites she visits are Korean. I don't know if Safari made a decision for me based on the usage. I'll have to check if there is a Google Korea. Thanks, Ron |

I think that the URL (http://www.google.de/ http://www.google.com =http://www.google.fr ... ) does not matter. It is just the google server which your browser will send the requests to. All of them should be able to answer you in English though.
It's kind of strange that your Safari decided to ask for jp preferences. In Firefox, you can set manually the HTTP accept-language header to select the preferred language. But it looks the cookie preference works as well ![]() Cheers, Tex |
