I am a new convert to mac, so am still looking for a couple of piece of software to replace what I used on my older pc.

The one I am stuck with is for optimising photos in a batch for the web - previously I used faststone on the pc which both resized and framed images, but I can't find a mac equivalent.

So far I can use the automator to scale the images to the size I want, but I can't find anything to add a simple frame - just a plain white/black border to separate them from the page they are on, previous examples at Flickr: Narcosynthesis' Photostream

Any recommendations for free software to look at? I am currently using Canons DPP and GIMP for editing if there are any processes you can use for them?

Free? What OS and machine are you using, depending on which, AppleWorks will do it. Otherwise any graphics editing app that will impose a transparent layer.

Free would be ideal.

It's to run on a white macbook, osx.
I know you can do things in GIMP and so on can do it, but mostly a pretty convoluted process, and annoying to do a lot at a time, with faststone I dragged in a load of images, pressed go and they were resized and framed nicely...

Okie Dokie... I think I have found several candidates for your needs! One of them costs about $30 US Dollars. It's called EasyBatchPhoto.

I found a free one that is multi-platform on Google Code called Squash.

There are 3 others that are mac specifics, and I will link the download pages. If you want the Dev sites, please google them and see what comes up!

RapidoResizer
Resize! 1.4.2
Pixer

I really hope one of these gets the job done! Lemme know what you think!

Sincerely,
James

It is the framing I need, not the resizing (which can be done in automator), so out of the linked ImageFramer is the only one that will do that for me.

Tempted to just buy it and be happy, but I do feel slightly silly buying a piece of software when I would be ignoring all the fancy framing (ie what it is really made for) and just using the image mats/mounts to add the white/black border I would like...
