Since April Time Machine and Time Capsule have been working great.
Since yesterday morning, the following takes place:
- Time Machine starts backing up
- After backing up 8 Mb of 8 Mb, the backup process keeps on running for hours

Looked at the console log and I see a lot of "error: (-5000) No Copy " messages for specific folders. Excluded those folders .... no luck

Verified internal disk & time capsule , no errors.
Verified and repaired permissions on internal disk ( 3 repairs)
tried again ... no luck

Created another user account and ensured it was an administrator.
No luck.

Checked on Apple for any of these symptoms related to time machine/time capsule and found nothing. Checked other sources on the internet as well.

I can still restore from Time Machine so that is .

Anyone got a clue on where to search next.

Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers
McBie

Did you try rebooting the machine and time capsule? I had a time machine error (not with a TC) that I could only fix by restarting both.

Erik, Thanks for the feedback....

I have rebooted both ( forgot to mention that in the OP )

Found an article on the net related to Time Machine and Spotlight.
Also something on Airport and 802.11n ( 5 Ghz ) wireless that may be worth looking into.

Haven't figured it all out yet, but I'm trying

Cheers.

Update 2008-11-09:
Haven't changed a thing on my config and after a 21 hour backup ( 8 MB ), Time Machine is working as before, with no error messages in the console.
Guess you have to trust the developers

I did discover that Spotlight is indexing the Time Capsule as well, so that might explain why some backups take longer " preparing " than others.

Lesson learned: " Be patient and let Time Machine finish what it started. "
