I've noticed the glowing blue dot no longer appears underneath icons of the programs that are running in the dock....anyone know why this is? Not a big deal but it was handy to know quickly which programs to shut down when I start up memory hog programs...

Try repairing permissions to see if that helps.

Have you tried theming your Dock? If so it might have messed up your Dock resources.

Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/, find Dock.app, right click and select "Show Package Contents" go to /Contents/Resources and make sure all of the following files are present:

indicator_large.png
indicator_medium.png
indicator_small.png

If you are using the 2D dock check for:

indicator_medium_simple.png
indicator_small_simple.png.

If they aren't there, that's your problem. There are places online where you can download the resources, or you can get them from your install disk using Pacifist.

It may be just a corrupt preference file. Try deleting the com.apple.dock.plist
Home folder~library/preferences

When all else fails, try everything!
