As a new user of the Mac having just changed from Windows XP I am very confused as to where the download files are stored. I tried downloading a torrent file which appeared to have completed but there was nothing in the download folder except the torrent itself. Is there a secret place where it keeps them?

PS I know I shouldn't download torrent files but was just trying it as an experiment.

Thanks

They are stored wherever it is that the preferences of the software you used are set to save them to. So... re-open the app, check the preferences.
