Crossover is the commercial implementation of WINE. You could try WINE for OS X. It's more cutting edge and supposedly runs some apps that Crossover doesn't. But... it's also more prone to apps breaking with subsequent releases. And it's not as polished as Crossover is. See link below for more info.
MacOSX/Installing - The Official Wine Wiki

That aside, there's no other alternative I know of short of using a virtualization app like Parallels or VMWare.

Standing request for all troubleshooting: Please provide your Mac model/year and OS version. Also advise us if you have used or installed any antivirus, security, or "cleaning" software on your Mac. If you have installed MacKeeper in particular, you are hereby advised to uninstall it.

Actually, there's a Mac version of Windows Live Messenger. I use it.

Here's the official Microsoft version of Messenger:

Microsoft Messenger for Mac: Connect Instantly Online| Mactopia

But I highly recommend aMSN, which is an open source variant. The OS X version has more functionality than the Microsoft version:

aMSN - Opening your communication

Additionally, I highly recommend Adium, which is an Instant Messanging client that supports all of the major instant messaging protocols:

Adium - Download

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
