Hi-

I'm looking to install PostgreSQL on my Mac running OS X 10.4. I'm a bit new to PostgreSQL and am installing it to get up to speed for an upcoming job. Can anyone point me in the direction of some step-by-step installation instructions for this software.

The install instructions I've found online, thus far, have been a bit advanced for my skill level.

Additionally if anyone knows of a good tutorial out there to practice with- that would be great as well!

Thanks for any help!

Hi, i´ve recently installed postgresql via Fink.
Fink is kind-a-like an 'apt-get' or 'yum' command that installs software open source.
First install 'Fink' (search google)
after on a terminal : sudo install postgresql
Fink checks dependencies and does all the work for you, it installs all binaries in a folder 'sw'.
after Fink installation, you can type on a terminal : Fink --help to see Fink´s features.
See ya

Do I download the PostgreSQL .app available via the PostgreSQL website or should I use the postgresql81 package available via the Fink website?

Thanks!

Fink is a tool that does the work install job for you.
Open a terminal
type:finsk install postgresql
you´re done!

After that you will have to enter the postgresql installation foldervia Fink it goes ->/sw/bin
search the commands to start you postgresql server(you have to tell a path to a data folder you want to store data in
create a user and a password
create a database.
after that you will be able to create tables, run queries, etc..

PostgreSQL on Mac OS X, instructions here to install Fink.
Don´t bother reading the rest because it referes how to install postgresql manually!
