Opening a file help please

I have purchased a tutorial and downloaded it to my desktop. The file is xxxxx.php. When i click on it nothing happens . How do I open this type of file?

Looks like that's an HTML markup variant. I'd open up a Safari window and drag the file to it. See if that shows you your tutorial thingee.

It might also be a stub that points you to an online resource for the tutorial. Either way, Safari should be able to parse it and get you on your way.
