Does anybody have any info on how i can change the icon associated to dmg files ? My dmg files seem to have a hex editor icon so that if you click on the dmg file, it opens up in hex editor ?

regards

Graham

Hey ...

Well, changing the ico will not change the program that the file is associated with, ie, opens with.

I have not used Panther, but I think the following should still apply:

What you need to do is select the file, then get info (CMD+I). The info window will open, and from there you will have the option to select "Opens with". From the drop down, select "Other" then browse to Disk Utility (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility) and select it. Then click "change all".

If you do however want to change the icon for cosmetic purposes, then, while still with the info window open, copy (Select, CMD+C) the default dmg icon from somewhere (maybe you can download the ico from somewhere) then select the ico in the top left of the info window, and paste (CMD+V).

Hope this helps?

Dave

Thanks for that Dave, I of course didn't mean to change the icon, but to dissassociate the spurious icon so that the dmg file opens and installs instead of
opening the hex editor
I will try it later ,thanks
