I'm getting the base (no extra features) $1,099 MacBook on July 13th. My question is, does it already come with Microsoft Office programmed into it?

Office for Mac is only $150 for student and teacher edition. That would be a whole lot cheaper then buying a complete OS just for three or 4 programs within it.

Not going to do any good downloading the MS Office 2008 update without the original version and a product key.

Also, as far as I'm aware, the MS Office 2008 trial version is no longer pre-loaded on new MacBooks. You have to download and install the trial version yourself.

As far as the price for the Student version of Office 2008, shop around and do some comparing. I bought it for $129.00 from a web discounter.

Regards.

Why even use MS Office? There are free alternatives like OpenOffice and NeoOffice (which is based on OpenOffice) that are very much compatible with MS Office formats and will suit the needs of most. There are even non-freebies out there that probably will suit your needs and will be cheaper.

don't buy microsoft office.... you should definitely not buy that software... that is a huge mistake, it is great and better than open office, that is for sure, but don't BUY it...

iwork is getting better, but I still don't believe that it is as good as office yet, and that pains me to say it.

I reiterate my point that Microsoft is better now that iwork and you should not rely on it if you are a student... although students do use it, I believe after reading the material posted previously on a review of two that microsoft office is still the better product.

well im going into high school and all the computers run windows with office. I would prefer to use the same app. at home (office) so i don't have compatiblity issues when transferring data via USB.
