They already have it. Just right click on any link and you will be allowed to open link in a new tab. I would recommend firefox though, that is what I use.

I expect it'll be added sometime in the first half of 2003.

When that happens, there will be a New Tab command in the File menu, an Show Tab Bar command in the View menu, and a section of the Preferences window to set tabbed browsing options.

Until 2003, though, you're going to have to make do somehow.

haha. 2003. i didn't like having all links open in new tabs so i messed around & learned that if you hold down the apple key when clicking on a link it opens in a new tab. ;] haha. amazing.

first of all only the applications go into tab, not a link from a webpage, and secondly i don't want to right click. that is nonsense. I want to click and have the link go directly into a tab THAT IS TABBED BROWSING not what apple has. Apple tabbed browsing is a joke, firefox has tabbed browsing, but i don't like firefox.

oh yea technologist that isn't tabbed browsing that is a lame version of it, a lame version, of what opera, omniweb, firefox and even explorer for crying out loud has, but I love safari, aside from that lame feature they call tabbed browsing... maybe 2004
    -thanks all

apple's tabbed browsing is a joke? They all work the same. It's not too difficult. If you're so worried about making the "extra work" to right click, just hit COMMAND + CLICK. it will automatically open the link in a new tab.

    such high maintenance...

it is NOT the same thing at all... I am not saying I don't like safari or that I don't use their version of tabbed browsing, but I would much prefer the one used by many other great browsers. IT is not the same, anyone that can tell the difference can see that, I know that my point or rather complaint is very minute, but I prefer the tabbed browsing my way or the way many others employ its use.

    Try this:

    From Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Kill Safari (cmd-quit) and relaunch. It should now open new links in new tabs,
as long as they're 'offsite', similar to how Firefox works.
