Backing up hard drive and OS

Hey guys, I just bought a used macbook with an 80gig hard drive. Looking to upgrade it to a 320gig drive. Was wondering what software I can use to make a complete image of the current OS and software that can be put on a fresh new unformatted hard drive.

I don't have any software disks or anything and I'm looking to do this as cheap as possible.

Anyway I can backup to DVD?

Welcome!

A couple to consider, that work well. You'll still need to format, whatever drive your using, to Mac OS extended (HFS+)
