Is dictionary SMART?

How smart is the dictionary thats built into the system? 'cause i make some basic mistakes (like everyone) and sometimes it doesn't give me the right suggestions, so i have to go all the way down the ctrl-click list to select the right one. does dictionary learn and make the right suggestions after a while, or is the learning non-existent? I know the iPhone has a learning feature or the keyboard, and the word suggest feature...
