how to create new folders in mail

I want to move emails out of my inbox into a folder, but I do not see how to create new folders. I created a smart mailbox but the emails are still in inbox. and if I delete one it deletes from both the inbox and smart mailbox. Can I set mail to have messages in my smart mailbox that won't show in my inbox or can I create folders to store certain emails in where they fill up my inbox?

Hi there I had trouble figuring out a way to do this myself. Instead of creating a smart mailbox just create a new mailbox instead from the drop down menu. Then name the mailbox anything you like. I've got one that says saved messages. Then you can just drag and drop any mail into the folder which will move it from your inbox aswell. Hope this is what you're after. Ry
