Hello guys and gals,

I was wondering if the Google desktop for Mac is any good for your Mac OS? Since the system already has a built in search, does Google desktop conflict with spotlights indexing features..

I rarely use spotlight because it does not have any shortcut keys that I know of like Google desktop... in Google desktop all you have to do is hit command twice and a search box appears.

Any feed back would be appreciated

Command+Space for Spotlight menu.
Command+Option+Space for Spotlight window (A finder window with search bar selected)

I don't think Google desktop is needed. The integration of spotlight throughout the system is much better than what Google can provide.

Agreed. I can't think of any reason Google Desktop is needed on a Mac... now, on XP, that's another story.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

I tried Google Desktop on my Mac and found that I never used it, and was actually a little cumbersome in comparison to Spotlight. It's a godsend on Windows, however.

Just wanted to add that those keyboard shortcuts can also be changed to one's own liking via the System Preferences.

I've not used Google Desktop myself, but Spotlight seems to have really matured well with the 10.5.2 update. I see no reason to use anything else either.

Agreed 100% - Google Desktop is great for Windows XP, but has become somewhat redundant on OS X and even Vista.

One more vote for not using Google Desktop on OSX. If you have Tiger or Leopard it would be of no benefit that I can even think of. OSX does it all and does not in any way need Google Desktop.

Like was said, it can be a large benefit on Windows XP though since it does not have a good search engine like OSX and even Vista although I have heard a lot of negatives about Vista's search.
