iChat not listing newly added contacts...

I've noticed in the past couple weeks, anyone new I add to my contact list doesn't show up as being online... even when they are. Any idea how to fix this? I don't remember changing any sort of setting, to I'm kind of lost as to what could have happened. Any info would be awesome, thank you!

I'm running iChat 3.1.8 if that makes a difference.
