I realize that this is a beta and errors are prone to happen but that's just weird. What is it about "dell beep code" that makes it crash - how is it any different than other search strings?
I just tried it here and it worked fine for me but your problem perplexes me. The joys of betas...

I do have glims installed on mine also, so it could be a combination of that.
But, it just strikes me as funny, that I've been running the beta without issue until that. And I've tried it a dozen times, including after a re-boot.
It'll let me search for 'dell beep' which brings up what I need, but as soon as I add 'code' or 'codes' to it... bam ... shutdown. And it'll happen with those three words in any order.

I just installed Glims (build 15) and don't seem to encounter that problem. Do you have an older build? Build 15 was released only 4 days ago and "fixes a number of Safari 4 beta compatibility issues". In the short list of fixes, I didn't see your problem mentioned (nor anything like it) though.

No, been procrastinating on the newest update to glims. It keeps popping up while I'm in the middle of something else.

Tha main issues I'm having are Safari freezing quite a bit and giving me the beachball when trying to connect to sites. No matter how much I want to use Safari, I always end up going back to Firefox. I hope the full release of Safari 4 will show a huge improvement on the beta.
I am glad that finally someone noticed that this problem with MSN messenger is connected with safari 4. It also screwed up Xcode but it was fixed by downloading its latest version.

Not sure if this specific issue has been raised, but I am having problems with CPU use in Safari 4.
I am on Leopard 10.5.6, with an Intel MacBook Core Duo, 2GB RAM.
I have noticed that rendering pages uses 100% CPU for the entire time it takes to render the page in Safari. Usually this is no more than a second or two, but sometimes is longer. Firefox never uses more than 20 - 30% when rendering pages and seems to do so just about as quickly. Over time, this hurts battery performance and makes the machine hot.
I know it's only a beta, but this behaviour actually reflects Safari 3.2.1 as well, so I am concerned about it.

I've seen similar in both 3.2 and the beta and am having to shut Safari down on occasion because it just sits at 100-105% CPU use.
Mine is typically during or after watching a video, could be from YouTube, Hulu and others. I can close all the tabs and close the window, but typically only quitting will stop the CPU use.
edit: It no longer shuts down if I search for "dell beep codes".

No one but Apple knows that - and they may not even know yet.

Hope this makes sense - no doubt not. ;-) Anyway, I downloaded Safari 4 and when I go to a new page, it replaces one of the tabs - and then I have to go to "merge all windows" like before. So I'm not quite seeing the advantage, although it does move a LOT faster. Any help would be appreciated.
Anyone else missing scroll bars? I downloaded Safari 4 and found many pages had no scroll bar (and couldn't be scrolled using the 'up' and 'down' keys).
I immediately un-installed (or reverted), but the problem persists! Anytime I view a page in pdf format any further pages I view in that window have no scroll bar. I'm not sure this is the only time it happens, as I'm noticing it a lot, but this seems to be a way of making it happen.
Would appreciate if someone else could experiment and see if they find the same thing (either in Safari 3 or 4).
I reported it as a bug to Apple, but I'm now at a loss as to what to do, as having un-installed the beta version I still have the problem.
Ok, so I updated my OS to 10.5.7 and downloaded the Safari 3.2.3 but when I go to upgrade to Safari 4, it comes up with the page, thank you for downloading it, but the download never starts!
