Reputation System Tweaks

Some tweaks have been made to how much reputation you can give out a day and the amount it must be spread around.

Also you'll notice that comments are required on negative reputation.

just wonding, has the amount you can give been increased, or decreased?

also, I think required comments for negitive rep is a great idea, it will help keep lots of flame war reputation from hapening....

People have been asking for the ability to give more reputation each day as the system has become more popular. So we went ahead and increased the amount.

Cool...I'm glad it's been so well adopted. I like it, 'cause I've never been a big fan of post count as any kind of gauge except of how much time you spend on a message board. We should investigate other kinds of reputation and rating schemes and how they may apply too. = )

Absolute agreement on the post count. You should have been around a few years ago during the "post count wars", it got ugly . We actually removed the post count completely for a time to experiment.

I think finding outstanding ways to recognize truly helpful members is always a great thing.

It symbolizes somebody gave you reputation but they have not been around long enough or have a negative rep so their rep does not count.

this is quoted from trpnmonkey41

"grey means that they haven't posted enough for their votes to count yet. it is just a method to keep people from registering multiple names to abuse the system"

You can not, if they don't leave their name then there is no way to find out.. I think the admins and moderators can look it up to see if people are abusing the system, but other then that if somebody doesn't want you to know, then you can't.

Edit: This post actually did answer a post which has since been edited.. just so people reading are not like "yo this due just randomly answered a question that was not asked"
