can i play music ripped from itunes or music i bought from the itunes store, on my ps3?? and if so what is the easiest way to get them files to the ps3?

Ripped, yes. Purchased, No. Easiest way I have found is just a big USB flash drive, if you want to get more complex you can setup a media server, but I don't know of any good software for that.

problem with that though my ps3 wont recognized the usb drive i use with my mac, when i used it with linux no problems, but it wont "see" the drive when i use a mac. btw i no longer have my linux computer.

Does it not see it at all or just not see the files on it?

If it doesn't see the files then just highlight the drive, press triangle then go to 'Display All'. If it doesn't see the drive I would suggest format it to FAT.
