need to record sound on PowerBook w/Jaguar

I am embarrased to ask this......I need to record low-fidelity voice to my PowerBook. I've got a mic plugged-in and launched iMovie (don't know if there's a more straightforward tool or approach). iMovie is recording the sound from the internal mic, not the external mic.

any advice is appreciated... thanks!

If all you deed is low-fi then i'd personally look for a freeware app from version tracker.
