I bought one of these little suckers at the Apple Store recently, and I am having trouble getting it to work right. I set my computer to record from the sound card, plugged the link in and put my guitar to it. All I can get is a really rough sound, kinda like a mono recording with lots of static. I plugged in my Bass to make sure it wasn't just my guitar and I got the same thing.

Has anyone else here ever used one of these things? And with good results? I think I may have to return it; unless I'm doing something wrong.

Is this in GarageBand, or something like QTPro? I know in GarageBand there's a lot of "soft-amps" and real-time "post" processing going on to let you tweak the sound.. in QTPro or similar you're just getting a "native" sound that won't sound anything like you'd expect your guitar to sound.

In any case, Apple has an "online seminar" (streaming video) all about connecting your guitar to your Mac and working with it. If you haven't seen it already I strongly suggest you check it out (I don't have a link but it shouldn't be too hard to find).

If you're doing everything right it might be a problem with the cable, or even the sound card.

EDIT: Links to a few videos that may interest you:

You have to register for the site, then "register" to "attend" the seminar to watch the videos, but it's a small price to pay for such great, free content.
