I'm using iMovie 08 right now and am not very pleased. It looks as if they tried too hard to make it all fancy and cool looking but it is now a lot harder to use. I liked the whole timeline layout for effects and titles and music and whatnot

There are certain elements I like about it, and certain things I don't.

I do have FCP though, so it's not much of an issue... anything it can't do and iMovie 06 can't do FCP can.

I havent played around with it too much, as a former windows user I had the Pinacle studio which had a lot more features than iMovie 08, I've downloaded the iMovie 6 HD from apple, and I've also got Final Cut Express 2, so I'm presently playing around with all three to determine which one is the best for me.

This is one of the few threads where you can apparently answer the question without opening the thread - minus my reply and at least two others - by just looking at the number of replies!

I totally dig iMovie 08. Sure iMovie 06 has more 'features', but its interface is lacking.

I really like iMovie '08. I never gave '06 much of a shot, but with '08 I had an MPEG-2 encoded TV show edited, resized, and exported to MPEG-4 within an hour of opening the application for the first time. Sweet.
