Are there any apps (preferably freeware) that can convert midi to wav format? I tried searching but could not find anything.

i've never tried it for exactly this function, but look at audacity.

If you can play a midi file, you can record it in Audacity. It isn't so much converting as playing-recording. Like converting a player-piano roll to audiotape.
