It would help to know whether you're looking at a desktop or a laptop and what your budget is.

If you're looking to keep the costs to a minimum, a Mac Mini and Garageband (which is bundled with every new Mac) should do the trick.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Also please let us know how serious you are with your music. Do you want something simple such as Garageband or do you want professional recording software such as Pro Tools or Logic?
