Hey everyone,

Just wondering what program I would use to do this. I have a song by Bond that has a main violin track as the main instrument, then has many different background ones. The song is currently in MP3 format. I have the sheet music for the song for that Violin part. What I want to know is if its possible to use some program to remove, or at least turn the volume way down on that main Violin track so I can play along with it. Just not sure if because its MP3 there's no information on tracks or how that works. Thanks!

Because it is an mp3 all of the tracks used during production are merged into 1 single track, so if you turn down the volume on one, the whole thing goes down.

Okay that's cool. What if I have the actual CD, then can I do that or still no good?

Nope, still all 1 track. The artists in the studio have everything on separate tracks but once it goes to production all it is is left and right channel

I dont really know much about this but I think programs like soundtrack can remove or mute certain frequencies from a track. I think if you do the equalizer preset and change volume levels on each frequency and experiment you might be able to isolate or remove a track. But you probably wont have the best quality.

You can open the MP3 in Quicktime, edit the track to remove the portions you don't want, save it with Quicktime (either as an MP3 or as a Mov file) and then use it in iTunes again with no problem.

It's not portions I don't want, it's tracks, as in I want to remove the main violin that's playing to make it like a karaoke track.
