Our car is enabled for bluetooth with mobile telephones, cellphones in US. It doesn't seem to be possible to play music on an iPhone through the bluetooth connection.

Has this got something to do with the car installation rather than the iPhone?

Is this why retailers sell earphones that are blue-tooth enabled that claim to work with iPhones and iPads?

Bluetooth can be set by makers to be limited in function.

In this case, I think it's the car not the iPhone. I can verify that Bluetooth headphones work great on iPhones, and as far as I know you do not need to ensure they are iOS compatible. On the other hand, Apple DID limit the BT in the iPhones to NOT pair with computers for file transfers, since the filesystem in iOS is not normally user-accessible.

I am guessing it is the vehicle as well. Not all of them are capable of supporting music over the bluetooth connection.
