imac and home theatre system compatiblity

i want to connect my imac g5 to my jvc ex-d1 compact cd/dvd system.

i plugged the rca cables into the " aux " of the the system and to the " audio out " port on the imac. there is no sound.

any ideas??

I believe you need to specify in system preferences sound tab where the audio is going, whether its built in speakers or output jack or something else
at least this is true for my emac
