Some months ago, I transferred my iTunes library from PC to Mac, and all has been fine.

All of a sudden, yesterday, literally all of my tracks have little grey Exclamation Marks next to them, and when tried to play, it says

The song " " could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it".

And I can't. All of my tracks (over 3K of them) have just disappeared.

In the iTunes folder, there's a small handful of artistes/albums, and that's it.

can anyone help?

Well, either the drive that actually housed the tracks has been dismounted, or someone's been mucking around in your Music folder.

Short of catastrophic disk failure, those are your options. Which do you think its most likely to be?
