Mac Mini audio output problem

I have my Mac Mini and I am trying to connect to an external audio system via a KVM switch (my PC is on the same system). The only output site obvious is the headphone jack. I can hear sound though this when I listen with headphones, but hear no sounds when attaching the cable running through the KVM switch. On the PC side of this system, the sound works fine. How can I get this to work?

Does it work from your mac to the audio system without the KVM switch ?
