12" G4 ibook needs a mic socket !

I'm thinking of getting my microphone sorted out , it's too noisy . One option is just to take it out and let it dangle away from the computer , but best to put a mic socket in there somewhere. Anyone out there done this ? And if so do you know what spec of mic i might use if i wanted to try different ones?
