want to upload my mac os x itunes library to my iPod

hi ya-rall. i have an ipod classic with tons of my favorite tunes on it and i want to upload my mac os x itunes library. the only problem is i don't know how to and i sure don't want to just plug it in and lose all my faves in one fowl swoop. can anyone guide me please? ps is it fowl or foul. hmm, i don't know.
