This may be a stupid question, but Toast gave me the impression that I can view Blu-Ray discs on my laptop. (http://eshop.macsales.com/images/Ite...ic_writing.jpg) Because when Toast Titanium 8 is installed it asks if you'd like to add Blu-Ray support. I was just wondering if I could actually watch one on my MacBook.

Very few consumer notebooks currently have blu ray drives as they are prohibitively expensive.

As you pointed out, even external drives cost over $1000,-, slim slot loading ones like you would require for a Macbook would add at least $1000,- to the price of your notebook.

... (and you'd still only be able to play half of the HD titles on the market).

yeah. currently, and i cannot emphasize *currently* enough, the BluRay idea, is junk.
not many movies on BluRay, a BluRay player is around $1000, and i'm not sure if BluRay can read normal DVD discs or any other disc (i think it can, and it should, as a DVD player can read CD's)..

but, the idea of BluRay will expand and become a multi-media tool.
a single BluRay disc can hold up to 50GB of space.. does this give anyone ideas?
let me put it this way.. hours and hours of gameplay on the PS3 (which currently has a BluRay drive), movies will have lots of extra features, longer movies, and much more.. but right now, this is all very pricey.

I currently don't know of a specific slot load drive for a Macbook but I don't do any research for Macbooks because I do not own one.
My PS3 plays standard DVD's and burned DVD's with no problem. I only paid $375 new for it.
Prices are higher than they are for HD-DVD though. Standard Blu-ray players are $500 or $600 (not $1000) compared to $300 or $400 for HD-DVD. (Pricing via Best Buy just now...) I assume there are lots of better deals online.
