Goto Tab on bottom right of workspace that says 'Editing', once there, go to top tab that says Titles and select the one you want. When you like how it looks and have the playhead set to where you want it, click 'Add'.

I don't think so in iMovie. What you are looking for is LiveType and it's for the Final Cut series of products.

I havent used imovie for a few months (now use final cut) but the tick box when ticked puts the title (words) on a black background, whereas if its not ticked the title will be superimposed over the underlying video. |
